IWRB
has played a leading role in coordinating inventories of wetlands in
Europe, North Africa, Latin America, Asia and Oceania. Work is
currently underway on an inventory of the wetlands of the territories
of the Russia. These projects have identified priority site for
conservation activities and are an important tool for the application
of the Ramsar Convention. IWRB is currently working on a projet in the
Mediterranean region to develop methodologies for the preparation of
national wetland inventories, and programmes for monitoring ecological
change in wetlands.
IWRB meets goal of promoting the conservation of wetlands
and wetland biodiversity through:
Wetland assessment and monitoring.
Monitoring weterbird populations.
Waterbird action plans.
Supporting international conventions.
Research Groups.
Training.
Disseminating information.
