IWRB
played an instrumental role in the creation of the Convention on
Wetland of International Importance, especially as Waterfowl Habitat
(Ramsar Convention). Today, this Convention has developed as an
important tool for cooperation between governments for the conservation
of wetlands. IWRB provides technical support, both to the Ramsar
Convention Bureau, and to many of the Contracting Parties to the
Convention. IWRB is also working closely with the Convention on the
Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (Bonn Convention,
paticularly through the provision of technical support to Agreements
for the conservation of migratory waterbirds.
IWRB meets goal of promoting the conservation of wetlands
and wetland biodiversity through:
Wetland assessment and monitoring.
Monitoring weterbird populations.
Waterbird action plans.
Supporting international conventions.
Research Groups.
Training.
